Khadija Baker is a Montreal-based, multi-disciplinary artist of Kurdish-Syrian descent. Her installations investigate social and political themes centered on the uncertainty of home as it relates to persecution, identity, displacement, and memory. Her multi-disciplinary installations (textiles, sculpture, audio/video) involve participative storytelling and performance to create active spaces of greater understanding. Her most recent work explores the social aspects of violence in the Arab world and, specifically, how it affects women and children. Baker has been pursuing her research creation at the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies in Society and Culture (CISSC) since 2017. She won the 2020 Cultural Diversity in Visual Arts Award.

Khadija Baker ist eine in Montreal lebende, multidisziplinäre Künstlerin kurdisch-syrischer Abstammung. Ihre Installationen befassen sich mit sozialen und politischen Themen rund um die Ungewissheit der Heimat im Zusammenhang mit Verfolgung, Identität, Vertreibung und Erinnerung. Ihre multidisziplinären Installationen (Textilien, Skulpturen, Audio/Video) beinhalten partizipative Erzählungen und Performances, um aktive Räume für mehr Verständnis zu schaffen. In ihrer jüngsten Arbeit erforscht sie die sozialen Aspekte der Gewalt in der arabischen Welt und insbesondere die Auswirkungen auf Frauen und Kinder.
